This ultimate package enables you to experience the Whanganui river from all angles. It includes the thrill of a jet boat ride with the serenity of canoeing. With a three night stay you have two full days to fully explore the area as well as time to relax. Make the most of all the Whanganui river valley has to offer!

Day 1: Arrive in the afternoon at the Flying Fox where your car will be securely parked. Traverse the river on our aerial cable car, then settle into your unique hand built cottage. Spend the afternoon exploring the Flying Fox site, take a swim in the river, or walk to the nearby historic Koriniti Post Office. Relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the evening with a glass of wine or perhaps a soak in a bush bath.

Day 2: JET BOAT After breakfast, collect your fresh packed lunch and drive up the river road to Pipiriki. Here, you will board the jet boat for a 55 minute journey upriver to the Mangapurua Landing. You will travel through an area of spectacular natural features with deep river gorges covered with green tree ferns and lush native vegetation. You will then be guided on an easy 40 minute walk from the landing, following in the footsteps of the early pioneers along the old roadway to the “Bridge to Nowhere” where you will stop for a hot drink and lunch on this historical monument of a bygone era and learn the history from your local guide. On your return to Pipiriki you can make your way back to the Flying Fox perhaps stopping to explore settlements such as Hiruharama (Jerusalem) or historic sites such as the Kawana Flour Mill.

Day 3: CANOE After enjoying your continental breakfast the following day, collect your lunch and board the bus to your chosen starting point with your driver. You will be given a full safety briefing and equipped with everything you need to canoe safely back to the Flying Fox.
This leisurely paddle down the river will take between 3- 6 hours (depending on your preference) with time to stop and explore along the way. This is a tranquil section of the river where you can truly get away from the crowds (and jet boats) and experience the serenity and natural beauty of the National Park. You will pass several historic settlements where you have chance to stop and explore if you so wish. Otherwise just settle in and enjoy the breath taking scenery as you float along. Arrive back at your accommodation where hot showers will be waiting and you can relax for the remainder of the day.
