This package offers you a perfect balance of relaxation and exploration! You will have plenty of time to experience the natural beauty of the Flying Fox site along with a guided tour on the local mail run. The morning mail run will take you along the River Road, stopping to visit historic settlements on the way. The whole area is steeped in history and there is no better way to explore and hear the stories than from the local guides who grew up in the area.

DAY 1: Arrive in the afternoon at the Flying Fox where your car will be securely parked. Traverse the river on our aerial cable car, then settle into your unique hand-built cottage. Spend the afternoon exploring the Flying Fox site or maybe take a swim in the river. Relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the evening with a glass of wine or perhaps a soak in a bush bath.

DAY 2: Your morning starts with a delicious continental breakfast. Then you will catch the rural Mail Bus at the top of our driveway, joining Tracy who grew up on the Whanganui River, for a morning delivering mail along the Whanganui River Road. Immerse yourself in scenic river surroundings, hear the local stories and visit historic and otherwise unseen places.

As you deliver the mail you will visit local farming stations and stop at historic sites such as Kawana Mill and Hiruharama (Jerusalem) where your local guide will take you on a tour around the convent and provide morning tea.

On your return from Pipiriki the Mail Bus will drop you back to the Flying Fox where a light lunch will await you. After lunch you can spend the afternoon relaxing or take a short walk to the nearby historic Koriniti Post Office.

For those keen to know more about the area we have a library of local history books available for your perusal.
